Despite the rise of T20 cricket, the desire to don the whites for Test cricket remains strong among cricketers. Avesh Khan, a right-arm medium pacer, passionately expressed his aspiration to compete in Test cricket, a format he views as the ultimate challenge. He highlighted his experience with Madhya Pradesh and in domestic competitions like the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy, as well as representing India A. Avesh enjoys the unique challenges of bowling with the red ball, consistently delivering 20-25 overs a day and totaling 300-350 overs in a season.
Experience and Dedication

“I’m very excited for Test cricket as I feel it’s a format where I can prove myself which I’ve done for my state team, India A or while playing the Duleep Trophy or the Deodhar Trophy. I’m waiting for that chance as there’s a different kind of fun playing Test cricket. I love to bowl with the red ball as I bowl around 20-25 overs in a day for my state team as well. In the entire season, I bowl around 300-350 overs so I’m looking forward for a chance to play Test cricket and do well for my country in the longest format,” stated Avesh in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Since his first-class cricket debut in December 2014, Avesh has played 43 matches for Madhya Pradesh, taking 165 wickets at an average of 22.49 and an economy rate of 3.11. Despite this, he has not been seriously considered for the Indian Test team but remains hopeful for a call-up in upcoming series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, or even the tour Down Under.
Reflecting on Jasprit Bumrah’s impact, Avesh echoed Virat Kohli’s sentiment, calling Bumrah a once-in-a-generation bowler. Avesh noted Bumrah’s advice on focusing on execution, emphasizing precise delivery of yorkers, bouncers, and length balls. On the current tour of Zimbabwe, Avesh has been a leading wicket-taker, hoping to finish the series on top.
