Cricket West Indies (CWI) has imposed a two-match ban on Alzarri Joseph after his heated reaction to a fielding disagreement with captain Shai Hope. During the third ODI against England, Joseph expressed frustration when Hope ignored his suggestions on field placement, leading to an intense on-field outburst. Although Joseph bowled an impressive wicket-maiden over, he abruptly left the field, forcing West Indies to continue with only ten players until coach Daren Sammy intervened to bring him back.
Though West Indies won the match convincingly by eight wickets and clinched the series, Joseph’s actions overshadowed the victory. CWI quickly responded to the incident, consulting senior coaching staff before suspending Joseph. CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, emphasized the need to uphold CWI’s core values of respect and integrity, stating they could not overlook such behavior.
In response, Joseph publicly apologized to fans and teammates, admitting that his emotions led to a brief lapse in judgment. “I know my passion got the better of me. I have personally apologized to Captain Shai Hope, my teammates, and management,” he said, adding that he regrets any disappointment caused to fans.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy also condemned Joseph’s behavior, underscoring the importance of respect and discipline within the team. He pledged to address the incident directly with both Joseph and Hope to prevent similar issues in the future, reinforcing a team culture based on mutual respect and unity. CWI remains committed to fostering an environment that values integrity, ensuring players uphold high standards on and off the field.
