USA Cricket has decided to exclude Aaron Jones from their 15-member squad for the World Cup League 2 (WCL-2) tri-series, which features Nepal and Scotland. The decision follows Jones’s absence from the previous WCL-2 series in Namibia in September, where he prioritized his contract with the Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This choice did not sit well with some selectors, leading to his omission from the current squad.
Although Jones qualified as a local player in the CPL and did not need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from USA Cricket, his recent performances have not met expectations. He was selected for the T20I series following the CPL but failed to deliver significant contributions. Meanwhile, the USA team has been performing well, winning all four matches in Namibia, which further justified the selectors’ decision to leave Jones out.
Despite this setback, Aaron Jones has been a crucial player for the USA cricket team. With an ODI average of 35.77, he has scored 11 fifties and one century in the format. His impressive performances during the recent T20 World Cup in the USA, including two match-winning innings of 94* and 36*, were instrumental in the team’s progression to the Super 8 stage.
While there is currently uncertainty regarding Jones’s future with USA Cricket, his talent suggests that he may return to the team soon. The squad for the upcoming WCL-2 tri-series includes Monank Patel (captain), Smit Patel, Sai Teja Mukkamalla, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, and others, focusing on maintaining their winning momentum.
