Expressing satisfaction over the inclusion of Thiruvananthapuram-native Sanju Samson in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has lauded the wicketkeeper-batsman’s well deserved opportunity.
India recently unveiled their preliminary 15-man squad for the prestigious tournament scheduled to take place in the Americas in June.
Samson, representing Kerala’s capital constituency, secured the secondary wicketkeeping role alongside the returning Rishabh Pant. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy.
“Congratulations to the @BCCI selectors on picking an excellent team for the #T20WorldCup2024. Delighted that my constituency will finally be represented at a cricket World Cup with @IamSanjuSamson finally getting a much deserved break! This team will bring back the trophy!!,” tweeted Tharoor.
Known for his vocal support of Samson’s national team inclusion, the 68 year old politician previously criticized the batsman omission from the ODI World Cup squad in the previous year.
Samson’s impressive form in the ongoing IPL season has significantly contributed to Rajasthan Royals’ leadership in the points table. He has amassed 385 runs in nine matches, showcasing his batting prowess.
With 25 T 20 Internationals under his belt since his debut in 2015. The 29 year old is poised to make a significant impact in the forth coming tournament.
