In a significant development, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the reconstruction of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is progressing well, with 50% of the work completed ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. As Pakistan prepares to host this ICC event, several cricket stadiums across the country are being upgraded to meet international standards.

Despite facing challenges due to strained political relations, Pakistan remains optimistic about hosting the Champions Trophy in 2025. The Indian government has yet to make a decision regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sending its team to Pakistan. However, construction projects continue as part of the PCB’s commitment to enhance facilities.
Since assuming his role as PCB chairman earlier this year, Naqvi has prioritized the reconstruction of major cricket venues, including the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Stadium in Karachi. During a recent site visit, he reported that the team is nearing 50% completion on the Gaddafi Stadium, with crews currently installing floors in the main and office buildings. Naqvi also met with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to assess the project’s progress.
To enhance the stadium’s appeal, plans include the establishment of a cricket museum and a souvenir shop within the main building. Naqvi has urged authorities to complete all renovations by the deadline set for the Champions Trophy in 2025.
In a bid to ease tensions with India, the PCB has promised expedited visa processing for Indian fans wishing to attend the tournament. Naqvi emphasized the importance of a smooth visa experience and called on the government to facilitate this process. Nonetheless, India is advocating for a hybrid model due to ongoing security concerns regarding travel to Pakistan.
