Former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik, has vehemently denied match-fixing allegations surrounding his participation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while addressing rumors about the termination of his contract with Fortune Barishal. The speculation, fueled by social media discussions, arose following Malik’s involvement in an incident where he bowled three no-balls during a match against Khulna Tigers on January 22.

In response to these rumors, Shoaib Malik continued to play for Fortune Barishal in subsequent matches during the Dhaka leg of BPL 2024, refuting any claims of contract termination due to match-fixing suspicions. Taking to his ‘X’ account, Malik urged caution in dealing with such rumors, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before dissemination to prevent reputational harm.
Malik clarified that he had discussed his temporary departure from Bangladesh with team captain Tamim Iqbal. Their joint decision aimed at fulfilling a “pre-committed media engagement in Dubai.” Despite his absence, Malik conveyed his best wishes to Fortune Barishal for their upcoming matches and expressed his willingness to support the team if needed.
To further dispel doubts regarding match-fixing allegations, Shoaib Malik shared a video featuring Fortune Barishal’s owner, Mizanur Rahman. In the video, Rahman categorically dismissed the reports, providing clarity on the integrity of both Malik and the franchise. This comprehensive response from Malik and Fortune Barishal aims to address and clarify the controversy surrounding the match-fixing speculations.
