India’s first innings in Perth ended at a modest 150 after opting to bat first. However, captain Jasprit Bumrah ensured India seized control with a sensational display of fast bowling. Bumrah’s fiery spell dismantled Australia’s batting line-up, as he claimed 5 for 30, reducing the hosts to just 104.
Jasprit Bumrah struck early in his second over. Nathan McSweeney was trapped lbw for 10 after a precise review from Bumrah. The ball, delivered at 138 km/h, seamed in sharply, beating McSweeney’s tentative defense and hitting him in line with the stumps.
He then removed Usman Khawaja in the seventh over, setting him up brilliantly. Khawaja’s hesitant prod outside off resulted in a thin edge to Virat Kohli at slip, departing for 8.
Next ball, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a peach to Steve Smith, dismissing him for a golden duck. The delivery decked back sharply at 141 km/h, trapping Smith plumb in front as he failed to bring his bat down in time.
Bumrah returned to dismiss Australian skipper Pat Cummins for 3. A full delivery angled in, drawing Cummins into a drive that edged to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
Bumrah completed his five-for with the wicket of Alex Carey. Coming around the wicket, he delivered a short ball that Carey nibbled at, offering another straightforward catch to Pant.
