A heartwarming scene unfolded after the high-octane encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 29 of the ongoing IPL 2024 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Jasprit Bumrah, the fiery fast bowler for MI, shared a special moment with his former national teammate and current CSK veteran, MS Dhoni. The two cricketers were spotted catching up and posing for a photo together inside the player’s balcony, sparking nostalgia among fans.
A Captain-Protégé Reunion
This reunion held particular significance as Bumrah’s international journey began under Dhoni’s leadership during India’s white-ball tour of Australia in January 2016. Interestingly, that series also marked the international debut of Hardik Pandya, the current captain of MI.
A Match of Highs and Lows
The on-field encounter, however, proved bittersweet for both teams. CSK emerged victorious by 20 runs, courtesy of a formidable total of 206-4, powered by impressive knocks from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Shivam Dube. MS Dhoni himself added a thrilling touch with a last-over cameo, smashing three sixes in his four-ball blitz.
MI fought valiantly in response, led by a magnificent unbeaten century (100 runs off 63 balls) from Rohit Sharma. However, they ultimately fell short, managing 186-6 in their allotted overs.

MS Dhoni and CSK now set their sights on their next challenge – the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 34 of IPL 2024 scheduled for April 19th. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will be looking to lead MI to victory against the Punjab Kings in their upcoming encounter on April 18th.
