The series is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, January 11, at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, with subsequent matches slated for January 14 in Indore and January 17 in Bengaluru.

Ajit Agarkar, heading the selection committee, will meet in Cape Town to finalize squads. Subrata Banerjee and S Sharath will join via video call, and Coach Rahul Dravid is expected to participate. Reports indicate Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are ready to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024. Their last T20I appearance was in the 2022 World Cup semi-final against England. Despite missing subsequent series, their potential return adds depth to the Indian squad for the upcoming tournament.

Leadership Challenges and Player Injuries

Hardik Pandya’s ankle injury rules him out, and Suryakumar Yadav led the team to victories against Australia and South Africa. Yadav’s leadership skills were evident in the successful outcomes of the matches during Pandya’s absence.

With Suryakumar Yadav sidelined due to injury, the captaincy for the Afghanistan series is uncertain.
