The Bangladesh government has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the ongoing player payment issues in the 2024-25 BPL season. The country’s sports ministry announced the decision on Thursday, as concerns over unpaid wages gained momentum.

“The National Sports Council (NSC) has noted media reports regarding unpaid players in the ongoing BPL,” the ministry stated. “Failure to fulfill contractual payments could harm the country’s reputation, along with that of the BCB and BPL.”
The three-member committee includes NSC director (sports) Humayun Kabir, assistant director (sports) Sajia Afrin, and NSC chairman’s private secretary Saiful Islam. They have seven days to submit their report.
The issue has caused significant trouble for the BCB, which reportedly failed to secure bank guarantees from all BPL teams before the tournament. Several teams are alleged to have not cleared player payments. Durbar Rajshahi players have been at the forefront of protests, with local cricketers boycotting a practice session in Chattogram. The franchise’s overseas players also refused to play against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka.
In response, the BCB has threatened legal action against the Rajshahi franchise. Meanwhile, Tom Moffat, chief executive of the World Cricketers’ Association, voiced his disappointment over the situation.
The committee’s findings could determine the next course of action, as authorities work to address the crisis and ensure fair treatment for players.
