A Bangladeshi fan named Robi was involved in an alleged altercation during the India vs Bangladesh Test. He was hospitalized on Friday after the incident. Initially, Robi claimed other fans had assaulted him. Later, he retracted this, citing dehydration and illness from Kanpur’s intense heat. Local police confirmed Robi was removed from the stadium after feeling unwell during the match’s opening day.

Robi, a well-known Bangladeshi superfan, was seen with tiger stripes painted on his face and appeared to be in discomfort during the lunch break. Security personnel noticed him stumbling near the media gate, quickly offering assistance by providing water and seating. An ambulance was then called to take him to a medical facility. Although initial reports and video footage captured by ESPNcricinfo suggested that Robi indicated he was struck from behind and elbowed, his later statements contradicted this.
Before the incident, Robi had been spotted in Stand C, waving the Bangladesh flag. This section of the stadium was deemed unsafe for spectators, raising questions about how Robi accessed it. Witnesses reported an argument between Robi and some Indian fans, which escalated into pushing and flag-snatching.
Robi, later speaking from the hospital, clarified that he felt unwell and that the police had brought him for medical attention. Assistant police commissioner Abhishek Pandey dismissed reports of an altercation, stating that Robi’s health had deteriorated, causing him to fall. Robi was declared fit after undergoing several tests and remained in the hospital for observation.
The incident occurred amid ongoing protests in Kanpur, with activists opposing Bangladesh’s presence due to recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
