Bangladesh missed out on direct qualification for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup following an eight-wicket defeat to West Indies in Basseterre. With 21 points in the Women’s Championship table, Bangladesh finished level with New Zealand but lost out on the sixth and final direct qualification spot due to fewer wins—eight compared to New Zealand’s nine.

New Zealand secured the final automatic berth alongside Australia, India, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka for the World Cup, set to take place in India later this year. Bangladesh will now join West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland in the qualifiers, along with Scotland and Thailand. Two of these six teams will secure spots in the main event.
In the third ODI against West Indies, Bangladesh’s batting collapse led to a dismal performance. After being asked to bat first, they were bowled out for 118 runs in 43.5 overs. Sharmin Akhter top-scored with 37, but Bangladesh fell apart after being 94 for 3, losing their final seven wickets for just 24 runs in 13 overs. Karishma Ramharack delivered a brilliant performance, claiming four wickets for just 12 runs in 6.5 overs. Zaida James took two wickets.
West Indies chased down the target in 27.3 overs, with Qiana Joseph scoring 39 and Deandra Dottin finishing unbeaten on 33. Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter claimed one wicket each for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies will continue with three T20Is on January 27, 29, and 31 in Basseterre.
