Bangladesh have made changes to their squad for the Asia Cup, bringing back wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan and allrounder Saif Hassan. Both players are also included in the 16-member squad for the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands, starting August 30.
Mehidy and Naim Left Out
There was no place for Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Naim, who recently featured in the 2-1 series win over Pakistan. Mehidy, Bangladesh’s new ODI captain, had returned to the T20I squad after the UAE series but failed to impress. He would have missed the Netherlands tour due to personal reasons, but has also been excluded from the Asia Cup squad. Both he and Naim are among the standby players alongside Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.
Nurul’s Comeback After Two Years
Nurul last played a T20I during the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he scored just 41 runs in five innings. Since then, he has rediscovered form, amassing 513 runs at a strike rate of 132.90 during the 2024-25 season across the BPL, NCL, and Global Super League. He also captained Rangpur Riders to the inaugural GSL title in 2024.
Saif Shows Form in Top End T20s
Saif has impressed with consistent performances in the Top End T20s, scoring a half-century against the Pakistan Shaheens and 45 against Melbourne Stars Academy. Nurul has also chipped in with useful thirties during the tournament.
Fixtures
Bangladesh face the Netherlands in T20Is on August 30, September 1, and September 3. Their Asia Cup campaign begins against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi on September 11.
