Bangladesh Chooses to Bowl; Debuts for Asha and Habiba

In the fourth T20I match against India, Bangladesh’s captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and elected to bowl first in Sylhet, despite the cloudy conditions. With India already leading the series 3-0, the pressure was on Bangladesh to make a strong showing.

Both teams made significant changes to their lineups, introducing debutants into the mix. Bangladesh handed international caps to their 14-year-old medium pacer Habiba Islam, along with left-hand batter Rubya Haider and leg-spinner Shorna Akter. Notably absent from Bangladesh’s playing XI were Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, and Fariha Trisna.

On the other side, India introduced leg-spinner S Asha, aged 33, making her the oldest Women’s T20I debutant for India. They also rested off-spinner Shreyanka Patil and brought in seamer Titas Sadhu, giving her the opportunity to play her first game of the series, with Renuka Singh making way.

Asha’s inclusion comes after her impressive performance in the Women’s Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the year, where she became the first Indian to claim a five-wicket haul. Her performance was pivotal in RCB’s championship-winning campaign this season.

Notably, this match marks Harmanpreet Kaur’s 300th international appearance, adding significance to the occasion for the Indian team.
