Australia Tries to Take Wickets as West Indies Strengthen Their Lead in the Test Match

The pink-ball Test at the Gabba witnessed a promising start for West Indies on Day 3, followed by setbacks with two wickets in the second half of the session. However, they managed to regain control, expanding their lead to 128 by Dinner. Kirk McKenzie’s brisk 41 and Alick Athanaze’s composed 28 not out played crucial roles in this turnaround.

West Indies

Beginning at 13/1, West Indies made a solid start with Kraigg Braithwaite and McKenzie. In favorable batting conditions, they steadily progressed against the home team. McKenzie displayed delightful drives, contributing to a fifty partnership. However, Cameron Green provided Australia with a breakthrough by dismissing Braithwaite, who fell for a drive.

Despite McKenzie’s promising play, Nathan Lyon dismissed him just short of a half-century, trapping him leg before wicket. Australia missed a chance for a third wicket before Dinner when the slip cordon couldn’t hold on to Athanaze’s thick edge. Nevertheless, Athanaze, displaying his best form in the series, guided West Indies to 106/3, establishing a lead of 128 at the break.
