Australia Dominate India with Head’s Century and Brilliant Bowling

India found themselves under pressure on day two of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, trailing by 29 runs at stumps. Australia’s Travis Head stole the show with a scintillating 140 off 141 balls. His whirlwind knock helped Australia recover from a wobbly position. Australia posted 337 in their first innings, building a significant lead of 157 runs.

Head arrived at the crease after Jasprit Bumrah’s double strike had left Australia in trouble. Nathan McSweeney and Steven Smith fell in quick succession, the former nicking to Rishabh Pant for 39 and the latter gloving a leg-side delivery for just 2. Amidst the turbulence, Head counterattacked, thrilling the 51,642-strong Adelaide crowd.

Initially, Head played and missed four of his first nine deliveries but quickly found his rhythm. Staying leg-side of the ball, he targeted the shorter square boundaries and unleashed a flurry of attacking shots. He brought up his fifty in 63 balls and raced to his century in just 48 more. A massive 110-meter six off R Ashwin highlighted his dominant display, complemented by clever placement and aggressive intent.

Head’s celebration—a tribute to his newborn—drew cheers from the crowd, with his wife and teammate Alex Carey sharing the moment. His knock ensured Australia took control, leaving India to face the challenging twilight period under lights.

India’s reply faltered as Pat Cummins and Scott Boland expertly exploited the conditions, reducing them to 128 for 5 by stumps. Rishabh Pant, however, remained unbeaten on 28, battling to keep his team in the contest. With their backs against the wall, India now faces a steep challenge. To turn the tide in their favor, they will need a monumental effort on day three.
