Saim Ayub injured his ankle while fielding on the first day at Newlands Stadium, ruling him out of Pakistan’s ongoing second Test against South Africa. The 23-year-old twisted his ankle while chasing a shot from South African batter Ryan Rickelton. As Ayub sprinted in the deep to cut off the ball, his left leg buckled under the weight of his body, causing immediate pain. Unable to stand, Ayub was stretchered off the field and taken for treatment.

This injury is undoubtedly a significant setback for the team, especially since Ayub had been in excellent form recently. Moreover, his stylish batting and solid technique had firmly established him as one of Pakistan’s most promising young talents. Therefore, his absence will certainly be felt as the team prepares for future challenges.
In response to Ayub’s injury, PCB Chairman Mohsin Khan took swift action, personally reaching out to the player. Khan reassured Ayub of the board’s full support and commitment to ensuring his recovery. To speed up his recovery, the PCB decided to send Ayub to London for specialized treatment at a leading sports orthopedics clinic. Doctors will evaluate his injury and determine the best course of action for a full recovery.
The PCB and Pakistan cricket fans remain hopeful for Ayub’s swift return to action, especially with the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 being a major focus. Therefore, the young opener’s recovery has become a top priority as Pakistan aims to have him fit and ready for the highly anticipated international tournament.
