Gujarat Giants have named Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner as their captain for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season. The announcement came on Wednesday (February 5), with Gardner replacing her teammate Beth Mooney as the team looks to improve its performance in the tournament.

Gardner has been a key player for the Giants since the league’s inception. Over the last two seasons, she has scored 324 runs and taken 17 wickets. However, despite her contributions, Gujarat Giants have struggled, finishing at the bottom of the table in both editions. In WPL 2024, they managed only two wins in eight matches, prompting a leadership change.
