Afghanistan, fresh off a strong performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 where they reached the semifinals, continues to make strides in international cricket. Their rising stature is further highlighted by their upcoming bilateral ODI series against South Africa, which will be hosted in Sharjah.

This three-match ODI series begins on September 18. Although it is not part of the original Future Tours Programme (FTP), as confirmed by the ACB chairman, it provides both teams with a valuable opportunity to prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Historically, Afghanistan and South Africa have faced each other only twice in ODIs—once during the 2019 World Cup and again in the 2023 World Cup. Their most recent encounter was in the T20 format during the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Series Schedule:
- September 18: 1st ODI, Sharjah Cricket Stadium
- September 20: 2nd ODI, Sharjah Cricket Stadium
- September 22: 3rd ODI, Sharjah Cricket Stadium
In addition to this ODI series, Afghanistan will also play their first-ever Test match against New Zealand in Greater Noida, starting on September 9. This series marks an exciting chapter for Afghan cricket as they continue to build their reputation on the global stage.
