In the third ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland in Sharjah, Afghanistan emerged victorious with a comprehensive 117-run win. The Afghan spin duo of Mohammad Nabi and debutant Nangeyalia Kharote wreaked havoc on the Irish batting lineup, claiming nine wickets between them. Nabi, aged 39, secured his first ODI five-wicket haul, while the 19-year-old Kharote impressed with four wickets on his debut.
After setting a target of 237 runs, Afghanistan’s bowlers dominated the proceedings. Nabi, bowling a marathon spell of ten overs, snared five wickets for just 17 runs. His varied pace and clever variations troubled the Irish batsmen throughout. Kharote, bowling with precision, complemented Nabi’s performance by picking up four crucial wickets.
In response, Ireland suffered a dramatic collapse, losing eight wickets for just 26 runs. Despite a solid start, their innings crumbled to 119 all out in 35 overs. Afghanistan clinched the series 2-0, having won the first match and experienced a washout in the second encounter.
Earlier in the day, Afghanistan’s batters, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi’s patient 69, propelled their team to 236 runs. Nabi also contributed with the bat, forming a crucial partnership with Shahidi. Although Ireland’s bowlers managed to restrict Afghanistan’s scoring towards the end, their batting faltered against Afghanistan’s spin attack, resulting in a convincing victory for the Afghan side.
