Australia’s star wrist-spinner, Adam Zampa, believes skipping the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was the best decision for his T20 World Cup 2024 preparation.
Zampa played a crucial role in Australia’s 36-run victory over England, delivering an impressive spell of 2/28 in his four overs during Match 17 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Zampa Credits Skipping IPL for World Cup Form
Following the match, Zampa explained his decision to opt out of IPL 2024. “I made that decision a little while ago to pull out of the IPL, and I thought it was the best thing for me moving forward into this World Cup,” Zampa said. “I was tired, had some niggles, and I’m a family man as well. Sometimes putting them first over work is pretty important.”
Zampa also mentioned the extra effort he put in to prepare for the World Cup. “I actually am a bit of a slow starter, and I put in a little bit of extra work. My body feels great, and I did a bit more bowling than I usually would before a tournament like this.”
In the match against England, Australia set a formidable target of 201/7, with significant contributions from David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Travis Head. England’s openers, Jos Buttler and Philip Salt, gave their team a strong start with a 73-run partnership.
However, Zampa’s timely dismissals of both openers turned the game in Australia’s favor, with England crumbling to 165/6 in their 20 overs.
England will next face Oman on June 13, while Australia will take on Namibia on June 12.
