Aaron Finch Optimistic about Glenn Maxwell’s T20 Comeback Following Adelaide Hospital Incident

Former captain and close friend Aaron Finch anticipates Glenn Maxwell’s return to his best form in the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies. Maxwell, the star all-rounder, recently found himself hospitalized after an incident in Adelaide, prompting concerns about his well-being.

During a golf day on January 19, Maxwell, affected by a combination of alcohol consumption and dehydration, woke up in an ambulance after teammates at a hotel couldn’t rouse him. The fallout led to his exclusion from the ongoing ODI series, with Australian captain Pat Cummins suggesting a reflection on behavior following a series of incidents, including a concussion suffered after falling off a golf cart during the World Cup in India.

Maxwell, however, remains tight-lipped about the incident, stating he is “all good” without providing further details.

Despite the setback, Finch, who joined Maxwell and Ricky Ponting at a golf promotion in Melbourne, expressed confidence in Glenn Maxwell’s commitment to staying fit and contributing to the Australian white-ball teams.

While acknowledging the incident’s less-than-ideal timing, Finch highlighted Maxwell’s positive spirits and the support network around him. Finch emphasized that Maxwell’s recent on-field success results from him maintaining his physical well-being, despite setbacks like a broken leg. He remains optimistic that the coming years will showcase the best of Maxwell, with a focus on ensuring his sustained presence on the field.

Maxwell, having escaped Cricket Australia’s sanctions, is set to make his comeback in the T20 series against the West Indies starting on Friday in Hobart. Selection chief George Bailey clarified that Maxwell’s omission from the ODI series was part of ongoing workload management, unrelated to the Adelaide incident.

As Maxwell readies to return to action, Finch believes his friend utilized the incident as an opportunity for reflection. Maxwell commits to maintaining a healthy and enduring presence in Australian cricket.
