Following the heart-stopping IPL 2024 encounter between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), renowned commentator Aakash Chopra shared his insightful analysis on PBKS’s defeat in a candid video.

Chopra shed light on key factors that contributed to PBKS’s downfall, pinpointing their struggle to accelerate their innings. A major point of discussion was Shikhar Dhawan’s cautious batting approach.
“Punjab Kings were put in to bat first, and despite Jonny Bairstow looking good early on, they just couldn’t get going,” Aakash Chopra observed. “Shikhar Dhawan, while playing for a long duration, batted at a slow pace, which wasn’t ideal considering the circumstances. Although Shashank Singh’s quickfire unbeaten knock of 21 runs off just 8 balls provided a late boost to their score, PBKS’s final total fell short of expectations.”
Chopra further delved into tactical decisions made by PBKS, including sending in-form batsman Sam Curran down the batting order. He also highlighted the effectiveness of RCB’s short-pitched bowling strategy against the PBKS batters.
“To be frank, the runs they managed were enough to put up a fight, but probably not enough to secure a win,” Aakash Chopra remarked. “Shikhar even admitted afterwards that they were short on runs. While Shashank Singh’s contribution deserves praise, their bowling attack was equally underwhelming.”
Chopra’s analysis wasn’t limited to batting. He specifically criticized PBKS’s bowling display, citing instances of loose deliveries that allowed RCB’s batters to seize control of the game. He pointed out errors made by bowlers like Curran and Harshal Patel towards the end of the innings.
“While the total was certainly a concern, their bowling was also extremely ordinary,” Aakash Chopra concluded. “It wasn’t just Shikhar’s knock that let them down. There were instances of poor bowling, with full tosses and short and wide deliveries that RCB capitalized on ruthlessly.”
