The Los Angeles Lakers got back on track with a commanding 111-88 victory over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night, a much-needed win following a tough loss to the Clippers just two days earlier. After that defeat, which exposed several weaknesses in their game, the Lakers (23-18) faced the perfect opponent to regain their confidence – the struggling Wizards, who have the fewest wins in the league with a 6-36 record.
Despite the Wizards’ ongoing rebuild, focused on the 2025 NBA draft, the Lakers executed their game plan with precision, cruising to a comfortable win. Washington, without a victory since January 1, struggled to compete, with only Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole providing consistent offense. The Lakers dominated from start to finish, rarely threatened by their opponents.
Anthony Davis led the charge for Los Angeles, finishing with 29 points and 16 rebounds, overpowering rookie Alex Sarr. LeBron James contributed his ninth triple-double of the season, posting 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists. Austin Reaves, despite a challenging shooting night (4-for-15), added 16 points and eight assists, while Dorian Finney-Smith provided a spark off the bench with 16 points in just 22 minutes of play.
The Lakers’ success came from consistently attacking the paint, finding open players, and capitalizing on lob plays. One of the standout moments of the game was a lob from Reaves to James, who dunked over Washington’s Jonas Valanciunas, showcasing the Lakers’ superior athleticism and execution.
Defensively, the Lakers were impressive, holding Washington to just 35.8% shooting from the field and 25.6% from beyond the arc. In the fourth quarter, they limited the Wizards to a mere 11 points, sealing the win with a strong defensive effort.
With their focus now shifting to Thursday’s matchup against the Boston Celtics, this victory was a crucial step for the Lakers to reset and gain momentum as they head into the second half of the season.
