Las Vegas, NV – Philadelphia Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie has shut down speculation linking him to a potential ownership stake in the NBA’s Boston Celtics, reaffirming his commitment to the Eagles.

Speaking on Super Bowl Opening Night, Lurie made it clear that he has no plans to expand his sports ownership portfolio.

“I’m not really interested in acquiring another sports team,” Lurie stated. “I think it’s connected because they were my childhood team. I have tremendous respect for their culture—I sort of see them as a kindred soul in the NBA.”

Lurie’s Deep Ties to Boston Sports

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Lurie grew up as a passionate fan of New England sports. In 1994, he made an attempt to buy the New England Patriots but lost out to Robert Kraft. Months later, he shifted his focus to the NFL, purchasing the Eagles for $195 million—a franchise now valued at nearly $8 billion.

In December, Lurie sold an 8% stake in the Eagles to outside investors for over $600 million, sparking speculation that he might be eyeing an investment in another sports team.

A report from The Ringer recently suggested that Lurie was in the running to purchase the Boston Celtics, but he firmly dismissed those claims.

Focus Remains on the Eagles

While acknowledging his admiration for Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and the franchise’s success, Lurie reiterated that his focus remains solely on the Eagles.

“Wyc has been an outstanding owner. I love the way they’ve built that team. We’ve celebrated so many banners over the years,” Lurie said. “But it’s not something that’s top of mind for me. My whole focus is on my love for the Eagles and winning another Super Bowl for Philadelphia. I’m obsessed, as you know.”

With Super Bowl LVIII approaching, Lurie remains fully locked in on bringing another championship to Philadelphia.
