Lakers’ Anthony Davis Hails LeBron James as NBA’s Greatest: “Broken Almost Every Record”

In the ongoing debate about the greatest NBA player of all time, Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis has firmly placed his support behind teammate LeBron James.

In an interview with Fox Sports’ Melissa Rohlin, Davis expressed his admiration for James, calling him the greatest player ever to play the game.

“He’s the greatest ever to lace up some shoes,” Davis said. “He’s scored over 40,000 points and broken almost every record possible. So, any time you have a guy on your team like that, he commands so much attention. His basketball IQ is off the charts, he plays the right way, and at his age, the fact that he can still perform at such a high level, night in and night out, is impressive.”

James, now in his 21st season, continues to defy age. Despite averaging just 22.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 9.4 assists per game this season—the lowest scoring average since his rookie year—his performances remain highly efficient, shooting 49.3% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc, and 75.8% from the free-throw line.

Although his scoring has decreased from his prime, James is still a dominant force on the court. With his experience and leadership helping guide the Lakers through a challenging season.

Davis, who has emerged as the Lakers’ primary scoring option this season, averaging 28.6 points per game. Shared that their dynamic on the court has always been about collaboration, not competition.

“It’s never been a conversation where I’m giving him the keys or he’s giving me the keys,” Davis explained. “It’s just been us playing off each other and letting the game come to us.”

While the Lakers have shown inconsistency recently, with a 10-4 record after a six-game win streak. They are still positioned at No. 6 in the Western Conference standings with a 12-8 record. Davis confirmed that his focus remains on winning another championship alongside LeBron, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

“[LeBron and I] definitely want to win another championship,” Davis said. “I want to win another championship, I want a parade. I know LeBron wants to, and I know some guys on our team want to win their first. We’re all competitive, playing for each other with one common goal.”

The Lakers will look to build momentum after a narrow win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday, as they face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
