Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey suffered a concerning left leg injury during the fourth quarter of the team’s 105-96 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
The injury occurred when Orlando’s Cole Anthony slipped and collided with Ivey while both pursued a loose ball. Anthony’s momentum carried him into Ivey’s planted leg, causing the 22-year-old to fall to the court in visible pain. Ivey clutched his shin as Detroit’s medical staff rushed to his side.
In a moment of heightened concern, Pistons trainers shielded Ivey from the crowd’s view using towels, while players from both teams surrounded him in solidarity. After a lengthy pause, Ivey was carefully placed on a stretcher and wheeled off the court with his injury concealed under a towel.
The emotional impact was palpable, with players from both teams visibly shaken. Anthony, directly involved in the play, appeared distraught and was comforted by teammates.
“It’s tough for all of us,” Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said after the game. “Jaden is an incredible teammate and person. Nobody works harder or cares more than he does. The team rallied to finish the game strong because they didn’t want to let him down.”
Ivey had been a standout performer before his injury, leading Detroit with 22 points.
The Pistons organization has yet to release an official update on Ivey’s condition, but the injury cast a shadow over an otherwise hard-fought win. Fans and players alike will await news on the young guard’s recovery, with hopes for a swift return to action.
