Lauren Jensen scored 11 of her game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, while Morgan Maly added 18 points, as Creighton defeated No. 21 Nebraska 80-74 on Friday. The duo each contributed four of the Bluejays’ 13 3-pointers in the victory.
Creighton (2-2) extended its recent dominance over Nebraska, having won eight of the last nine matchups between the two teams.
Nebraska (5-1) played without last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Natalie Potts, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury earlier this week during a game against North Alabama.
Creighton’s offense came alive late, with Mallory Brake hitting her first 3-pointer of the season, giving the Bluejays a 69-66 lead with just over two minutes remaining. On the following possession, Molly Mogensen made her fourth 3-pointer of the second half to extend the lead to six. Jensen then drilled another 3-pointer to push the lead to 74-66, securing the win.
Nebraska had a chance to narrow gap when freshman Britt Prince converted a basket while being fouled with 46-seconds left. However, she missed the ensuing free throw, leaving the score at 74-70. Jensen sealed the victory for Creighton by hitting two crucial free throws to extend the lead to six.
Mogensen also had a standout fourth-quarter, scoring all 12 of her points in final period, while Brake finished with 11-points.
For Nebraska, Alexis Markowski led the way with 26 points, and Prince added 20.
The game was closely contested throughout, with Creighton trailing 37-35 at halftime. Jensen and Maly combined for 23 of Creighton’s 35 first-half points, including three of the team’s five 3-pointers.
Creighton will next travel to Niceville, Florida, to face Wichita State on Monday in the Emerald Coast Classic, while Nebraska will play Kansas City on Tuesday.
