Dwight Howard Offers Solution to Lakers’ Center Depth Problem

Dwight Howard has weighed in on the Los Angeles Lakers’ ongoing search for a reliable center, responding to recent comments from Anthony Davis. Davis had emphasized the team’s need for “another big” to allow him to shift back to his preferred power forward position. Addressing the issue on X (formerly Twitter), Howard suggested that the solution “ain’t that hard” to find.

While his statement could hint at the availability of several trade market options, Howard’s history with the Lakers raises speculation about his own interest in returning to the team. The 39-year-old last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, which marked his third stint with the Lakers. Since then, he’s remained active in international basketball, spending the 2022-23 season with the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan’s T1 League. Despite reported interest from teams in Australia, the Philippines, and Mexico, Howard did not play professionally in 2023-24. Notably, he has not officially announced his retirement.

Howard’s NBA career boasts an impressive resume, including averages of 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks across 18 seasons. A decorated player, he earned eight All-Star selections, five rebounding titles, and three Defensive Player of the Year awards. However, his prime years are well behind him.

With younger and more viable options like Jonas Valančiūnas and Nikola Vučević available on the trade market, the likelihood of Howard donning the Lakers’ purple and gold again appears slim. Nonetheless, his comments underscore his awareness of the team’s needs and suggest he remains open to contributing if the opportunity arises.
