The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have entered into a significant four-year broadcast partnership, granting the EBU exclusive broadcasting rights for major FIBA tournaments, including EuroBasket and World Cup qualifiers. This alliance aims to enhance audience engagement and broaden access to high-quality basketball content across Europe.
Beginning in November 2025, the partnership will provide free-to-air access to premium men’s and women’s national team events, ensuring that fans can enjoy top-tier basketball without barriers. The agreement encompasses public service television, radio, and digital platforms for 19 EBU member countries, including Belgium, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye, and Ukraine.
In addition to broadcasting rights, EBU members will actively promote FIBA events and their respective national teams through extensive marketing initiatives. Frank Leenders, FIBA’s Media & Marketing Services Director General, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration underscores the growing popularity of basketball worldwide, particularly among fans eager to support their national teams.”
Leenders added, “The expertise and extensive reach of the European Broadcasting Union provide a quality platform to elevate basketball in Europe, delivering more games and thrilling action for both existing fans and new audiences.”
This partnership marks a pivotal move in promoting basketball at the national team level while significantly enhancing the viewing experience for fans throughout the continent.
