Reece Beekman of Virginia has secured the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award for the 2023-2024 season, marking his second consecutive win and making him just the third player to achieve this feat. Beekman’s defensive prowess also earned him a spot on the All-ACC Second Team and the ACC All-Defensive Team, alongside teammate Ryan Dunn, who received an All-ACC Honorable Mention.
This recognition adds to Beekman’s impressive collegiate career, as he now boasts three All-ACC selections. Leading the conference in assists and assist/turnover ratio, Beekman narrowly missed out on a First-Team selection but remains a standout performer for Virginia. Furthermore, his defensive contributions, including being the ACC’s second-highest in steals and setting a record as UVA’s all-time steals leader, underscore his impact on the court.
Virginia’s dominance in defensive accolades extends to Ryan Dunn, who topped the league in blocks per game. Dunn’s remarkable shot-blocking ability, coupled with solid contributions across various statistical categories, reinforces Virginia’s defensive prowess.
Although Beekman and Dunn received significant recognition, other Virginia players also earned notable mentions in ACC awards, reflecting the team’s overall strength. With their impressive regular-season record, Virginia enters the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament as the No. 3 seed, poised for a strong showing in the postseason.
