The anime is based on the manga Aharen-san wa Hakarenai (Aharen is Indecipherable), written and illustrated by Asato Mizu. The first season aired in April 2022, running for 12 episodes. Studio Felix Film also handled the animation for Season 1, with Makino and Yamamoto directing.

The story follows Aharen-san, a socially awkward student with extreme personal boundary issues—either staying too distant or getting way too close. One day, Raido, a fellow student, picks up her eraser, and Aharen-san instantly decides they’re best friends. From then on, she sticks by his side, whether they’re studying, playing arcade games, or eating lunch together.
Their friendship leads to unexpected moments of bonding, showing that affection and companionship can emerge in the most unlikely situations. With its quirky humor and heartwarming moments, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 promises to continue the lighthearted charm that made the first season a fan favorite.
