Cricket has always been rich in talent, with legends inspiring future generations. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Javed Miandad made history by playing ODIs for over 20 years. Now, Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams has joined this elite club, marking two decades in the 50-over format.

Tendulkar played ODIs for 22 years, featuring in 463 matches. Jayasuriya’s career spanned 21 years with 445 ODIs, while Miandad played 233 matches in his 20-year career. Williams, after completing 20 years in ODIs, has become the latest member of this prestigious group.
Williams made his ODI debut for Zimbabwe on February 25, 2005. Exactly two decades later, on February 25, 2025, he reached this milestone. Over 162 ODIs, he has scored 5,140 runs and taken 85 wickets, cementing his place as a key player for Zimbabwe.
Reflecting on his journey, Williams said, “I’m still trying to come to terms with getting older. It’s an amazing feeling to have played for this long. I’m grateful to everyone who supported me at crucial times.”
Looking ahead, Zimbabwe will co-host the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia. When asked about his participation, Williams responded, “I’d like to play until then, but injuries and form will decide. A home goodbye would be wonderful.”
With just nine more matches needed to reach 100 ODIs on home soil, Williams is on the brink of another milestone. His future remains uncertain, but Zimbabwe fans would love to see him on the big stage once more.
