Imad Wasim’s Superb Bowling Guides Islamabad United to Victory, Sets up Showdown with Peshawar Zalmi

Islamabad United showcased a dominant performance led by left-arm spinner Imad Wasim, who produced brilliant bowling during the powerplay overs to secure a crucial win over Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League playoffs.

Imad Wasim’s remarkable figures of 3-12 played a pivotal role as Islamabad United successfully defended their total of 174-9, restricting Quetta Gladiators to just 135 runs in their playoff encounter. United’s victory by 39 runs sets up a showdown with Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator 2, with the winner advancing to the final against Multan Sultans.

The impact of Imad Wasim’s bowling was evident early on as Quetta Gladiators struggled to cope with his precision and guile. Wasim’s three wickets within the powerplay overs reduced Quetta to a precarious 16 for 5, denting their hopes of a successful chase. Despite a valiant fifty from Omair Yousuf, Quetta failed to recover from the early blows inflicted by Wasim.

The formidable start provided by Wasim was complemented by an impressive batting display from Islamabad United, with Martin Guptill leading the charge with a solid 56 runs. Guptill’s partnerships with Alex Hales and Agha Salman laid a strong foundation for United’s total. However, Quetta Gladiators staged a late comeback, claiming six wickets in the final four overs.

Nevertheless, Islamabad United’s total of 175 proved to be too challenging for Quetta Gladiators to chase down, ensuring United’s progression to the next stage of the playoffs.

Now, an enticing clash between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator 2 awaits, as both teams aim to secure a spot in the final showdown against Multan Sultans.
