Sanju Samson’s injury has come as a major setback for India and Rajasthan Royals. He suffered a blow to his finger from a Jofra Archer bouncer during the fifth T20I against England. Samson looked in discomfort as the physio rushed onto the field. Soon after, he was dismissed for just six runs.

Notably, he did not take the field during England’s innings, with Dhruv Jurel replacing him as the wicketkeeper. Reports suggest Samson could be out for at least six weeks, putting his IPL 2025 participation in doubt. Initially, he was not taken for scans and was seen sitting in the dugout, indicating the injury wasn’t serious. However, a PTI report later confirmed a fractured index finger. Swelling increased once he returned to the dressing room, prompting the team management to send in Jurel as his replacement.

Samson will also miss Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jammu and Kashmir. His absence could hurt Kerala’s chances, as he is one of their key players.

Samson struggled throughout the England T20I series, failing to replicate his form from the South Africa series. His scores of 26, 5, 3, 1, and 16 highlighted his struggles against England’s pace attack. Mark Wood and Jofra Archer troubled him with short-pitched deliveries, repeatedly dismissing him in a similar fashion.

The injury further adds to Samson’s woes, as he was eyeing a strong IPL season to cement his place in the national team. His recovery timeline will be crucial for both Rajasthan Royals and his international aspirations.
