A tragic incident has claimed the life of a 17-year-old budding cricketer from Kolkata. On January 18, assailants reportedly drugged and robbed Dev Ghosh while he traveled 70 km from his Hasnabad home to a club cricket match.

According to a Times of India report, Ghosh was allegedly given a spiked drink by two individuals on a bus, leaving him drowsy. Upon arriving at Science City, the men reportedly stole his wallet and phone. His father, Ujjwal Ghosh, stated, “He was drowsy and told us he was forced to drink something spiked before they robbed him.”
Dev’s mother, Meena, shared that her son had informed them about the incident and mentioned feeling unwell. After the robbery, doctors admitted Dev to a hospital and placed him on oxygen and drips. Despite receiving treatment, the young cricketer tragically passed away.
The Ghosh family has expressed anger over the incident and blamed the Kolkata police for not taking timely action. “We later found out he had died. No one told us exactly what had happened,” Meena revealed, highlighting the lack of clarity and communication surrounding the incident.
This heartbreaking episode underscores the rising number of tragic events involving young cricketers, whether on the field or while traveling. Dev’s untimely death has deeply impacted his family and community. It highlights growing concerns about safety and swift action.
