Sydney Thunder have secured key replacements for the ongoing Big Bash League season, signing Pakistan pacer Mohammad Hasnain and England’s George Garton. The duo will fill in for Lockie Ferguson and Sherfane Rutherford, who are leaving to join their respective ILT20 franchises.

For Hasnain, this marks a significant comeback after his ban from the league during the 2021-22 season due to an illegal bowling action. Following a successful remodelling of his action, he has now been cleared to return. His comeback is crucial for the Thunder, who are dealing with multiple player withdrawals and injuries.
Left-arm pacer George Garton, previously with the Adelaide Strikers, brings additional depth to the Thunder’s squad. Known for contributing with both bat and ball, Garton is set to play a key role in the remaining matches.
The Thunder have faced a series of setbacks this season. Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft suffered injuries in a recent incident that left both players hospitalized. Sams suffered a concussion and will be sidelined for 12 days, while Bancroft has a broken nose and shoulder, ending his season.
To cover Bancroft’s absence, Thunder brought in assistant coach Daniel Christian as a replacement player. The addition of Hasnain and Garton helps cover the departures of Ferguson and Rutherford, ensuring the team remains competitive.
Despite these challenges, Sydney Thunder have had a strong season so far. Led by David Warner, the team sits second on the table with nine points from seven matches, having lost just two games. With three matches remaining, the Thunder are determined to maintain their position in the top half of the standings.
