The third Test between India and Australia concluded with a draw, thanks to rain that prevented a final-day result. Australia made a bold decision by declaring their innings early, but the weather ultimately interrupted the game. The draw leveled the series at 1-1, with two more matches remaining.

Despite the drawn result, India remains in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. To qualify directly, India needs to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 3-1 and hope South Africa wins at least one Test against Pakistan in their upcoming series. If India wins the series 2-1, they need the Australia-Sri Lanka Test series to end in a 1-1 draw or Sri Lanka to win 1-0. A 2-2 draw in the BGT would require Sri Lanka to defeat Australia 1-0 or 2-0 in their series at home for India to qualify.
Here are the key scenarios for India’s WTC qualification:
- If India wins the BGT 3-1 and South Africa beats Pakistan in one Test, India will qualify for the final.
- If India wins 2-1, they need the Australia-Sri Lanka series to end 1-1 or Sri Lanka to win 1-0.
- If the BGT ends 2-2, India can qualify if Sri Lanka wins 1-0 or 2-0 against Australia.
Following the draw, Australia remain second on the WTC points table with 58.89 percentage points, while India are in third with 55.88 points. South Africa top the table with 63.33 percentage points, and they are the favorites to qualify, with India and Australia fighting for the second spot.
