Tyson Fury feels much better prepared for his highly anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk this Saturday, acknowledging that he should have postponed their first fight in May. Tyson Fury, determined to avenge his first career defeat to Usyk earlier this year, believes the Ukrainian may shy away from a trilogy fight after this weekend’s outcome.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fury reflected on the challenges leading into their first bout, which he says were far from ideal.
“This time it’s been a lot easier. I’ve done lots of sparring and been able to train properly,” Fury revealed. “Before, it’s no secret — I didn’t do a lot of sparring, hence I had a massive bounty on me. Thinking sensibly, maybe I should have pushed it back and cost myself $10 million, but we’re here now, and I’m going to do the job.”
Fury initially delayed the first clash after sustaining a cut in training camp, but the Brit proceeded with the fight to avoid financial penalties. Now, with improved preparations, Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) feels confident heading into the rematch against Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), who remains undefeated.
Fury also addressed the possibility of a third fight, which Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh has been leading in ongoing discussions. However, the “Gypsy King” doubts Usyk will be eager for another meeting after their second showdown.
“There’s going to be a lot of pain, and I don’t think he’s going to want a trilogy,” Fury declared. “But if he does, good luck to him.”
The rematch promises to be another thrilling chapter in one of boxing’s most intriguing rivalries, with Fury focused on delivering a dominant performance to silence critics and potentially prevent the need for a trilogy.
All eyes will be on Riyadh this Saturday as Fury and Usyk prepare to battle once again for heavyweight supremacy.
