Roy Keane has shared his thoughts on Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United, suggesting a potential move away from the club could be beneficial for both the player and the team.
In his first Manchester derby as Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim made bold squad decisions by leaving both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the matchday squad. Amorim explained his rationale before the game, emphasizing the importance of training, performance, and engagement with teammates in his selection process. He hinted that standards needed to be higher.
The decision proved to be a stroke of genius as Amad, who took on the No.10 role, played a pivotal part in United’s 2-1 comeback victory at the Etihad Stadium, reinforcing Amorim’s position.
With Ineos planning a major squad overhaul in 2025, only six players are deemed unsellable, and Rashford is notably absent from that list. United are reportedly open to selling the forward for a fraction of the £80 million fee he could have commanded two years ago, due to ongoing concerns over his attitude and lack of consistency.
Roy Keane, a Manchester United legend, commented on the situation, suggesting a fresh challenge might be the best course for Rashford.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Roy Keane said: “A move for Marcus would suit the player – a new challenge for him. He’s been there a long time. When you’re at a big club and your attitude isn’t right – and it hasn’t been great recently – sometimes it’s good to part ways.”
Rashford, who has spent his entire career at United since coming through the academy, is likely to seek a return to the starting lineup under Amorim. However, if the player’s attitude does not improve, Roy Keane’s assessment of a potential departure may become a reality.
