West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin became the first cricketer to go under the hammer at the WPL 2025 auction on Sunday, December 15. The Gujarat Giants secured her services for ₹1.70 crore, more than three times her base price of ₹50 lakh, after an intense bidding battle.

Dottin is currently in India as part of the West Indies squad for the ongoing T20I and ODI series against the hosts. The 33-year-old will make her Women’s Premier League (WPL) debut in the 2025 season as Gujarat Giants aim to strengthen their squad following a disappointing WPL 2024 campaign.

Earlier in November, Gujarat Giants retained key players like Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, Ashleigh Gardner, and Phoebe Litchfield. However, under Mooney’s leadership, they struggled in WPL 2024, finishing at the bottom of the table with six losses from eight matches. The addition of an experienced all-rounder like Dottin is expected to bring balance and firepower to the team.

Dottin, who returned to international cricket in early 2024 after initially retiring in July 2022, has been a stalwart for the West Indies. A veteran of 132 T20Is, she has amassed 2,817 runs in 130 innings at an average of 26.08. Her record includes two centuries, 12 half-centuries, and an impressive strike rate. With the ball, Dottin has taken 67 wickets at an average of 18.32, maintaining an economical 6.39 runs per over.

In addition to her international feats, Dottin has significant experience in franchise cricket, having played 56 matches in the Women’s Big Bash League and 29 combined matches in the WCPL and The Hundred. Her wealth of experience and proven skills make her a valuable addition to the Gujarat Giants for WPL 2025.
