The much-anticipated clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 32 of IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed a shocking turn of events. GT, known for their aggressive batting approach, slumped to their lowest total ever in their short three-year IPL history.

This match stands out in stark contrast to the recent trend of high-scoring encounters in the league. Notably, five out of the six participating teams had surpassed the 200-run mark in the past three days. However, the script was flipped entirely in this particular encounter.
GT’s batting woes began right from the start after they elected to bat first. The potent DC bowling attack exerted pressure on their batting lineup, resulting in a meager total of 89 runs in just 17.3 overs. Even with 12 extras conceded by the Delhi Capitals bowlers, the lack of significant contributions from GT’s batsmen was evident.
The top-order and middle-order batsmen for GT failed to make their mark, with just three players managing to reach double digits. Their big-hitting middle-order batsman, Shahrukh Khan, suffered a dismissal for a golden duck, compounding their woes. The lone warrior for GT was their bowling all-rounder, Rashid Khan, who chipped in with a valiant 31 runs off 24 balls.
A visibly disappointed Shubman Gill, the GT captain, took full responsibility for the team’s poor performance in the post-match presentation. Gill squarely blamed the batting collapse for the loss and stressed the need to maintain a positive mindset. He clarified that the pitch wasn’t responsible for their dismal performance, pointing to his and his teammates’ dismissals.
Significance of the Match: Records Set
This match set a record low for the Gujarat Titans in their IPL history, surpassing their previous lowest score. It also marked the lowest total ever conceded by DC in bowling out an opponent in IPL history.
