On Friday, December 13, Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time in just over a year. The 35-year-old shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude for the opportunities he had to represent Pakistan.
Imad first retired in November 2023, citing a lack of opportunities, but reversed his decision ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. He was included in the squad for the marquee tournament but faced criticism for his underwhelming performances. In his announcement, Imad revealed that his match against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 was his last international game.

“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket,” Imad wrote on Twitter. “Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honour of my life. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has pushed me to give my best for our beloved country. While this chapter ends, I will continue to play domestic and franchise cricket, hoping to entertain you all in new ways.”
Imad’s international career spanned nearly a decade, beginning in 2015. In 55 ODIs and T20Is, he scored 1,540 runs, including six half-centuries, and claimed 117 wickets with two five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul. A skilled all-rounder, Imad played a crucial role for Pakistan in white-ball cricket, often contributing in pressure situations.
While stepping away from the international stage, Imad remains committed to domestic and franchise cricket, including leagues like the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Fans will still see the left-arm spinner in action, continuing his cricket journey in a different capacity.
