India’s U-19 team is battling Japan in a heated U-19 Asia Cup clash at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After a strong start, India faced its first setback when Japan dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the young cricketer recently bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ₹1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.

Suryavanshi, already under fire for a cheap dismissal against Pakistan, appeared determined to bounce back. He showed intent early on, smashing three boundaries and a six, scoring 23 runs off 22 balls at a strike rate of 100. However, his momentum was short-lived. Japan’s left-arm spinner Charles Hinze sent down a short delivery in the 8th over, prompting Suryavanshi to attempt a slog sweep. The ball soared high, but Timothy Moore pulled off a brilliant catch near the ropes, breaking India’s 65-run opening partnership.
This dismissal adds to the growing scrutiny of Suryavanshi, whose IPL selection has made him a hot topic. At just 13 years old, he became the youngest-ever player bought in an IPL auction. However, controversy looms, with reports suggesting he is actually 15 years old. These claims have sparked age-fraud debates across social media.
Despite the allegations, Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, has firmly defended his son, stating they are open to undergoing a bone test to verify his age. As the young cricketer navigates immense pressure both on and off the field, all eyes remain on his future performances.
This latest dismissal, combined with ongoing controversies, raises questions about whether Suryavanshi can justify RR’s investment and silence his critics.
