Naseem Shah is not the only Shah making waves in Pakistan cricket. His younger brother, Ubaid Shah, is catching attention with a stunning performance in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. On the opening day of the fifth round, Ubaid took an incredible 8 wickets for 79 runs against Larkana at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad. This was Ubaid’s first-ever five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, a memorable way to announce his arrival on the big stage.

Bowling 19.4 overs, Ubaid tore through Larkana’s batting lineup, helping Lahore Whites dismiss them for just 202 runs in 58.4 overs. He claimed the first four wickets and then wrapped up the tail, showcasing his skill and determination. Although Larkana’s top scorers, Faraz Aziz (36), Mohsin Raza (35), and Akbar Ur Rehman (35), made some contributions, they couldn’t cope with Ubaid’s fiery spell. As a result, Larkana’s batting collapsed under his pressure.
At stumps, Lahore Whites were in a strong position at 121/1, with Gohar Hafeez Butt (50) and Attyab Ahmad (61) looking set to add more runs. Lahore Whites seem poised to take a solid lead as they resume on Day 2.
Ubaid, who impressed at the 2024 U19 World Cup with 18 wickets, has been on the radar of cricket fans for some time. His recent performance has put him firmly in the spotlight, and a national call-up might not be far off. If he continues his impressive form, Ubaid could soon be playing alongside his brother Naseem at the international level, making the Shah family a force to watch in Pakistani cricket.
