The talented Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is reportedly leaving Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to captain Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2025 IPL season, as reported by the Press Trust of India. GMR, one of DC’s co-owners, is in talks with Iyer, and his future with KKR seems uncertain. This potential reunion marks a significant step for Iyer, who previously led DC to the IPL finals during his 2018-2020 tenure.

Shreyas Iyer, who joined KKR in the 2022 IPL mega auction, guided the team to a title victory in 2024. However, the franchise has not prioritized him as a key retention candidate, increasing the likelihood of his departure. Returning to DC would be familiar territory for Iyer, who initially joined them in 2015, and could now bring a championship-winning experience to the team.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant’s exit from DC seems likely as GMR, reportedly not in favor of retaining him, explores new leadership options. Pant’s future with the franchise became even more uncertain following the appointments of Venugopal Rao and Hemang Badani, which didn’t sit well with the wicketkeeper-batter. Expected to re-enter the auction, Pant could emerge as one of the most sought-after players.
The DC management, co-owned by GMR and JSW, rotates operational control every two years. For the upcoming season, DC’s retention list is expected to include Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs. These changes signal a fresh start for DC as they reimagine their squad and leadership dynamics for the next IPL cycle.
