Paul Merson’s Premier League Predictions: United vs. Tottenham and More

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has shared his predictions for the upcoming round of Premier League matches. Highlighting the highly anticipated clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Merson foresees “loads of goals” in the encounter at Old Trafford, predicting a 2-2 draw. However, he stresses that anything less than a win for United would be a “massive problem” for manager Erik ten Hag, especially after a disappointing start to the season.

“It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what’s going wrong at Manchester United right now,” Merson commented to Sportskeeda. “But something’s definitely not right. They need to get back into the top four; that should be second nature for a club of this caliber. It was crucial for them to secure a win against Twente to relieve some pressure, but they failed to capitalize despite taking the lead. If they lose to Tottenham on Sunday, it will create significant problems for United. Ten Hag absolutely needs to win this game.”

In addition to the United vs. Tottenham match, Merson is confident that his former club, Arsenal, will secure a “comfortable” 3-0 victory over Leicester City. He also predicts that Arsenal’s title rivals, Manchester City, will triumph 3-0 against Newcastle at St James’ Park, despite Rodri’s absence due to injury.

“Manchester City will feel Rodri’s absence,” Merson noted. “He’s the glue that holds the team together. While I don’t see his injury being an immediate issue in the upcoming matches, it will certainly have an impact over the course of the season. However, I still expect Pep Guardiola’s side to secure an easy win with a clean sheet.”

For other fixtures, Merson forecasts a 3-1 victory for Liverpool against Wolverhampton and narrow 2-1 win for Chelsea over Brighton. “Chelsea have been inconsistent, which I anticipated given their new team and manager,” he acknowledged. “They will need time to gel. I don’t expect them to challenge for the title, but I do think they can improve from sixth last season to potentially fourth this year. A win against Brighton could set a positive benchmark for their season.”
