Khem Birch Embraces Full-Circle EuroLeague Return Against Former Team Olympiacos

Khem Birch is set to make a notable return to the EuroLeague when Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul faces Olympiacos Piraeus on October 4. This will be Birch’s first appearance in Europe’s premier basketball competition since 2017, and it brings him full circle as he goes up against his former team from the 2016-17 season.

In that season, Birch played for Olympiacos, who fell to Fenerbahce in the EuroLeague final. Fenerbahce secured a decisive 80-64 victory in the championship game, with Birch contributing 14 points in 18 minutes. His performance was pivotal against a formidable Turkish frontline featuring Ekpe Udoh and Jan Vesely.

“It’s crazy!” Birch said with excitement, reflecting on the serendipity of facing his old team. “Everything comes full circle. I’m appreciative for being in that situation.”

During the past few summers, Birch has been seen training in Penteli, a suburb of Athens. He explained that his choice of training location is not coincidental.

“Olympiacos’ trainer Andreas Gkatzoulis invited me to work out at Peace and Friendship Stadium whenever I’m in town,” Birch shared. “I appreciate the offer, but I didn’t want to draw too much attention.”

Birch’s return to the EuroLeague and the upcoming game against his former team represent significant milestones in his career, marking both a personal and professional achievement.
