Sophie Devine will stay with the Perth Scorchers for at least two more seasons after a pre-draft signing. Last season, she was retained by the Scorchers ahead of Marizanne Kapp, who was sought after by the Melbourne Renegades. Devine had a standout season, scoring 489 runs at an average of 37.61, including a century against the Brisbane Heat. She also took 14 wickets as the Scorchers reached the Challenger final, where they were defeated by the Heat.

Devine is currently the Scorchers’ third-highest run-scorer in WBBL history, trailing only Beth Mooney and Elyse Villani. Devine expressed her commitment to the Scorchers, saying, “Coming back to Perth was a no-brainer. I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”

The Scorchers have yet to announce a new contract for Mooney, but she is expected to stay with the team. They have also signed Mikayla Hinkley from the Brisbane Heat for the upcoming season. The team previously included English players Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Lauren Winfield-Hill, though Sciver-Brunt will not participate this season due to international commitments.

The WBBL is set to start a week after the T20 World Cup concludes. With the English team touring South Africa, the end of the tournament will overlap with their schedule in late November. This announcement follows Chamari Athapaththu’s three-year deal with Sydney Thunder, leaving Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes as the only teams without pre-draft signings.
