BCCI to Allow Neeraj Chopra and Other Athletes to Use NCA Facilities, Confirms Jay Shah

On India’s 78th Independence Day, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made significant announcements regarding the board’s future plans, including the development of new stadiums and facilities. Among the highlights was the announcement of a state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, which will also be open to non-cricketing athletes like Neeraj Chopra and Manu Bhaker, who recently won medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to Shah, the new NCA in Bengaluru will feature three grounds and 100 pitches, including 45 indoor turfs, making it a comprehensive training facility. “We are going to make it available for Olympic sportspersons too, like Neeraj Chopra,” Shah shared in an interview with the Times of India.

Additionally, Shah revealed plans to build seven new NCAs across the country. Six of these will be located in the North-East states, with the seventh in Jammu. Reflecting on his tenure, Shah mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic initially delayed many of these projects, but the BCCI has since refocused on developing cricket infrastructure, particularly in underrepresented regions.

The new NCA in Bengaluru will open in September and will feature an Olympic-size swimming pool, along with state-of-the-art training, recovery, and sports science facilities. Shah highlighted the BCCI’s commitment to expanding and enhancing sports facilities nationwide to benefit both cricketers and other athletes.
